Below & Beyond 5's: 100 Books Every Child Should Hear before Kindergar...: 100 Books Every Child Should Hear before Kindergarten I posted this list a couple of months back. Click title above to go to the websit...

I posted this list a couple of months back. Click title above to go to the website for your copy of this incredible list.
I can proudly say that I am able to check off more titles. I am even happier 😊that I have been able to build small group activities based on most of the books that I read aloud!

Here is what was read:
1). Harry the Dirty Dog by GeneZion
This book was read at greeting time and randomly several other times over the course of a week.

**Opposite Words Activities**
Move your Body- this activity was a huge success as children moved in/out, up/down, above/below, over/under, stand/sit, open arms/close arms, walk/run, stop/go

Opposite Word Cards Matching Game- 24 card set allows children to match opposite words. Each card features the written word (for letter recognition) and a picture. Simply print, cut and laminate. Available for $1.00 at   https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Opposite-Words-Word-Cards-3628363

2). Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes by Eric Litwin
This book was also read during greeting time and several other times. This book was also chosen by the children to read at "Independent Reading Time"

**Colorful Shoe Activities**
Color Match- children stated foods (other than what was in the book) that were the colors to match those in books.
Shoe Color Graph- we made a graph of who was wearing a specific color of shoes. Children wrote their names under the color of their shoes.

The truth be known I believe that 4 or 5 Pete the Cat books were read in the past two weeks. Currently I am in the process of creating a take home literacy bag featuring three books and file folder games. It is going to be great! It is also going to be available at https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Miss-Vickis-Bookkits

3). The Napping House by Audrey Wood
This book was read with the children repeating the phrases from the book- a dozing dog.

**Sequencing Activities**
What Comes Next- using toys (a rubber dog, a woman figurine etc) to represent the characters in the book the children placed them in the order as they crawled into bed.

The concept of sequence and what comes next was implemented through out the day with the daily routine, bath rooming habits (what do you do next) and getting dressed.

4). Curious George by Margaret and H.A. Rey
This book was read aloud and listened to using a CD. While the children listened each child took a turn cuddling a stuffed George.

There were discussions about doing the right thing, being curious and friends after reading this book.

5). The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats
When this book was read we had about 3 inches of snow on the ground and had not been outside in weeks because of the cold. Well I am enjoying my SNOW DAY from the comfort of my couch as we have more than five inches of freshly fallen heavy wet snow. The prediction for snow is 9-14 inches TODAY, 2-4 inches on Saturday and 2-4 more on Sunday.

Looks like this could be a book to read when we get back to school next week.

So these are the books we have read...Looking forward to reading more from the list and providing the children with meaningful read alouds and great experiences!
